Queen Anne Paste

Queen Anne Paste

Rare ‘Queen Anne’ double-drop paste earrings circa 1740 – 1760, of a particularly neat and wearable size. The colourless black dot paste are set in foiled, silver closed back settings. On fine 18th century paste, it was customary for the setter to apply a pitch-like paint to the culet [ the tiny base facet], in the same manner as diamond jewellery of the era was made. The earrings have later gold wires which make them easier to wear and I have the original reverse fittings. They are 1 and 1/8 inches long and 1 and 1/8 inches wide at their widest point. Sparkling paste, evidence of old fitting to reverse and not heavy on the ear.
