A mourning ring circa 1790. The high carat gold tapering shank supports a compartment set with a microscopic carving of an obelisk in the shade of a weeping willow tree on a cobalt blue ground. The obelisk is inscribed : Souvenir for souvenir d’amitié, souvenir of love. The scene is covered by a domed crystal. The ring is size J [US 4 and 5/8] and the head of the ring measures 1 and 1/8 inches by 1/2 an inch. Virtuoso carving on a miniature scale unable to be replicated, pristine condition.
