Thief

A drole and amusing Stuart crystal love token circa 1680 – 1700. The plump high carat gold heart pendant is double-sided. The obverse contains a compartment with a blue ground surmounted by two colourful enamel figures – Venus pursuing Cupid who has absconded with her heart. Above the figures the enamel motto – au vouleur [to the thief]. To reverse a weave of brown hair and cerise foil in a gold wirework surround and a pair of green enamel doves surmounted by enamel angels holding a crown aloft. Both sides are covered by faceted rock crystal. The heart measures one inch by 3/4 of an inch. Such a charming little thing.
