Tabby cat

A reverse carved intaglio crystal of a tabby cat set to a 15 carat gold rope-twist brooch, circa 1890. The technique of reverse intaglio crystal carving required great skill, first carving out a domed rock crystal in intaglio and then painting the carving in fine detail. The tabby cat is depicted climbing out of a wicker basket. The effect achieved is photo-realistic. The brooch measures 3/4 of an inch by 3/4 of an inch. Well carved, immaculate.
