Tiberius and Germanicus

Tiberius and Germanicus

A high carat gold ring containing a cornelian intaglio of Tiberius and his brother Germanicus, circa 1800, in a later Roman style channel set mount.   Tiberius and Germanicus were powerful during the Julio – Claudian principate. During this time Rome reached the height of its power and wealth and it may be seen as the golden age of Roman literature and arts, but it was also a period of imperial extravagance and notoriety. The ring is size J [US 4 and 5/8] and can be sized. Very fine intaglio engraving, immaculate.
