Turquoise coiled serpent

Fine quality high carat gold coiled serpent brooch, circa 1870. The brooch is set with cabachon turquoise and the coiled serpent holds a heart in its mouth. It has ruby eyes. Turquoise was used in profusion in Victorian jewellery , here the coiled serpent holding a heart and the turquoise for forget-me-not stress the metaphor of eternal love. The brooch measures 2 inches by 1.5 inches. In fitted case and immaculate.
