Victorian melon-cut agate beads

Two large and striking strands of Victorian melon-cut agate beads, circa 1840. Antique melon-cut agates were hand-cut fluted beads shaped like miniature melons or pumpkins. They feature deep vertical grooves which required great lapidary skill. My restorer told me it would have taken a jeweller at least a week to carve these beads individually. One strand is 18 inches long and the other strand is 17 inches long. They have antique gold fittings. Quite extraordinary lapidary work, immaculate condition.
